Frozen pipes

Frozen pipes can cause major disruption to you and your home. You could find yourself without water, being forced to brave the cold because your central heating stops working or having to deal with an expensive clean-up operation if your water pipes burst.

Please check out http://www.niwater.com/dont-wait-insulate.asp for more info on how to locate your stop valve.

For tenants:

1.  Remember keep your heating running at regular intervals during the cold period.

2.  Ensure that you know where your main stop valve is in the property. If a pipe leaks or you suspect a leak shut your stop valve off immediately! Most likely located under the kitchen sink but may be located somewhere else in the property. If you are not sure where your valve is please contact me. More information can be found at the NIWater website (linked above)

3.  Keep good stocks of fuel, there may be a waiting period when you for example order oil.

4.  Call us immediately if any pipes leak.

If you are going to leave your property unoccupied for a period of time. Please inform our office. It will be your responsibility to either ensure that the heating is running sufficiently while you’re gone or to drain the system.
